Church Intercessions for Last after Trinity 2023 by Janet Warren  – The Greatest Commandment  - 2023

Brothers and Sisters in Christ – Let us prayer to our Father in Heaven that His commandment to love shall be obeyed at all times and in all places

  • Father – we pray for your church. For its Leaders and for all who minister and proclaim the Gospel. We pray for those who teach the faith to children in schools and Sunday schools, for Christians throughout the world and for those who are yet to be called. Father – grant to its members unreserved love for you and unselfish love for all people. May the glory of Christ be proclaimed as we seek to fulfil the great law of love. Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer
  • Father – we pray for your world. For all areas of war, oppression, civil unrest, poverty, disease or atural disasters. For all those who are suffering. – in a moments silence we pray for the situation in the Holy Land and in Ukraine. We pray for the leaders of the world that they would lead with truth, integrity, wisdom and compassion for all their people. Father – send a new spirit of love into the disputes between nations and races. Where there is suspicion bring trust – where there is anger bring compassion and Father, give peace in all places of war and violence. Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer
  • Father – we pray for our community. In all we do and say, in our lives with our families, friends and neighbours, let us show that love which is demanded from those who claim to love you – and may you, the Lord of all love – rule in our hearts. Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer
  • Father – we pray for those in need. For the sick, the lonely, the bereaved, the poor, the unloved and all who are suffering and are in darkness. – May they know the presence of your love through the love of those around them, bringing them strength and comfort. Father - Have mercy on those who are torn by anger and bitterness, who have never known love or have lost the way of loving – restore their peace and bring them new hope. Lord in your mercy – hear our prayer
  • Father – we pray for the departed, for those who loved deeply in this world and for those who failed in love – May they be received together into the love that is everlasting. We pray for those we have known and loved and those known only to you. Especially praying for those we know. And Father - Be merciful to those who have died unprepared

We light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. As you were with them in this life, so let them now be with you for ever. May the souls of all the faithfull departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace and rise in glory.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers or the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

A Prayer for our world

The world now is too dangerous and too beautiful for anything but love.
May your eyes be so blessed you see God in everyone.
Your ears, so you hear the cry of the poor.
May your hands be so blessed that everything you touch is a sacrament.
Your lips, so you speak nothing but the truth with love.
May your feet be so blessed you run to those who need you.
And may your heart be so opened, so set on fire,

that your love, your love, changes everything.
And may the blessing of the God who created you, loves you,
and sustains you, be with you now and always. May it be so. Amen

Prayers for Last Sunday after Trinity and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  - 2023

Jesus said “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind and you must love your neighbour as yourself”. As we reflect on these greatest commandments we pray:

  • For the worldwide church: May it be an everlasting example of love to faithful people, those who are uncertain and those on the margins of society. Grant to all its members unreserved love
  • For the world; May the depths of Christ’s love be shown in the dark places of our world; may there be love in the conflicts, the disagreements, the wars and the poverty
  • For our community of Bedford; May the love of Christ be shown in the acts of kindness to one another, in the hands that care, in the words that bring comfort and the arms that protect
  • For those who are in need; for the sick, the homeless, the lonely, the bereaved, the addicted, the unloved, the poor and those who are suffering any kind of darkness. May they know the presence of Christ through the love of those around them
  • For the departed; for those we have known and loved and those known to God alone. May they be received into the love that is everlasting

Prayers for Trinity 20 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren - 2023

With global events dominating our news bulletins, our prayers this week focus on the single word ‘Peace’. We pray:

  • For the peace of God to be in the hearts and minds of all world leaders, and those whose countries are engaged in war; for humanity, compassion and compromise to be the watchwords of their leadership and for careful consideration of their words
  • For the peace of God, to be with those who suffer through warfare, violence, oppression and prejudice; for the people of Israel-Palestine, Ukraine & Russia, Syria and The Yemen that they may know God’s protection, comfort and love in their fear
  • For the peace of God to be in our country; as tensions rise internationally, we pray that protests may be peaceful, debates moderated by a willingness to listen, racial and religious diversity celebrated, and the light of Christ to shine brightly in our towns and cities
  • For the peace of God to be in our community of Bedford; for those who are concerned about their safety, those who suffer abuse and intimidation, those who are homeless or waiting for decisions on their future lives in this country. May God wrap His arms around all in our town who find no peace in their lives
  • For the peace of God, which passes all understanding, and the love of Christ to be in all of us that we may be peacemakers in our world

Prayers for Trinity 19 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren - 2023

Thursday of this week is World Mental Health Day and so we bring our thoughts and prayers for all those impacted by mental ill-health. We pray:

  • Lord, heal and comfort our young people; be with those who are struggling to cope with the pressures put upon them by social media, advertising and their peer groups; those who self-harm, those addicted to substance misuse and those contemplating suicide as life seems too hard to bear
  • Lord, heal and comfort adults with mental ill-health; those suffering chronic conditions of depression, anxiety, hearing voices or bi-polar disorders; be with them, their families and loved ones who care and watch anxiously over them
  • Lord, heal and comfort out older generation whose mental capability may be fading; be with those for whom a diagnosis of dementia brings fear and anxiety for them, their families and friends; be with those who are depressed through isolation and loneliness
  • Lord, be alongside those who work in our Mental Health Services; be with those who work to prevent crises and those who care for the most challenging and severely ill people; be alongside our Police Service as they see the effects of mental ill-health in our community and have to make difficult decisions on our behalf
  • Lord, be alongside us when we meet those with mental ill-health; help us to listen well, to speak with your love in our words, to put aside the generalisations and stereotypes in our thoughts and to see all people in your image

Prayers for Trinity 18 and the week ahead by Geraldine Jones  - 2023

Lord, we live in a world of change. Everyday is filled with uncertainty. We are surrounded by the twists and turns of life and we often feel that we have little or no control over things that happen to us. Lord, we come to stand in your eternal presence. We come to you to find ourselves, to find our way, to find hope. We come to you because in Christ you first came to us. We accept the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus in our lives.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Bless and guide King Charles and the royal family, bless our church leaders, especially Charlie and Sam. We pray for all in positions of leadership and influence in government, that they may use that power for good; for an increase in our concern for one another’s well-being, across all barriers, and for all who are working to build community.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

We pray for the work of Emmaus in this country, but especially our local Emmaus at Carlton and the current projects and our church mission. Emmaus is giving – not just a bed and a roof, but safety, a home, employment, friends, and a future. Its giving a sense of hope. We thank God for our homes and friends here in our community, we thank you that we have that safe place to call home. Thank you to all those groups and people that try and prevent that downward spiral of homelessness and poverty, particularly at this difficult time for finances and housing shortage.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, we bring before you those people in your world without a safe home. Those in India where the flooding has destroyed homes, and other countries suffering flooding, famine, drought, and disease. Those in war torn countries, Israel and Palestine have said that they are at war and of course we must not forget the Ukraine where there has been flooding from the broken dam and the war continues to cause loss of life and devastation to homes and communities. We pray that you will give wisdom, strength, honesty, and integrity to all those leaders involved.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

We pray for the all those in the health service that work hard to look after us. For all the people involved in the vaccination programmes that are trying to protect our communities. We hear about the things that go wrong but perhaps don’t give thanks as much as we should for all times when people are helped. Lord, give strength to all who give so much to look after the young and old.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

We pray for our friends and family who may be poorly in mind or body, the nurses and carers in hospital and the more invisible carers looking after loved ones at home.

We also pray for those who have lost a loved one recently, for all those who live in our hearts and minds. May they find comfort in your sustaining and everlasting love.

We will have a moments silence to remember those loved ones.

……………………………………………

Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

We will now sing the Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Prayers for Trinity 17 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  - 2023

This week the Church commemorates Saint Francis of Assisi. He is remembered as a man of poverty, simplicity, and utter dedication to God in all creation. One of the prayers ascribed to Saint Francis is often sung as the hymn “All creatures of our God and King”. We use the original prayer this week to reflect on our created world, and the part we play in it. We pray:

The Canticle of the Creatures

Most High, all powerful, good Lord,
to you be praise, glory, honour and all blessing.

Only to you, Most High, do they belong.
and no one is worthy to call upon your name.

May you be praised, My Lord, with all your creatures,
especially brother sun,
through whom you lighten the day for us.

He is beautiful and radiant with great splendour.
He signifies you, O Most High.
Be praised, my Lord, for sister moon and the stars,
clear and precious and lovely they are formed in heaven.

Be praised, my Lord, for brother wind
and by air and clouds, clear skies and all weathers, by which you give sustenance to your creatures.

Be praised, my Lord, for sister water,
who is very useful and humble and precious and pure.

Be praised, my Lord, for brother fire, by whom the night is illumined for us,
he is beautiful and cheerful, full of power and strength.

Be praised my Lord for sister, our mother earth,
who sustains and governs us and produces diverse fruits and coloured flowers and grass.

Be praised, my Lord, by all who forgive for love of you and who bear weakness and tribulation.

Blessed are those who bear them in peace; for by you most high they will be crowned

Be praised, my Lord, for our sister, the death of the body,
from which no one living is able to flee.
Woe to those who are dying in mortal sin.

Blessed are those who are found
doing your most holy will,
for the second death
will do them no harm
Praise and bless my Lord
and give him thanks
and serve him with great humility.

Prayers for Trinity 15 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren   - 2023

This week we think about St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist of our Lord who is commemorated on Thursday. St. Matthew was called by Jesus from his work as a tax collector and followed our Lord throughout his ministry. He is reputed then to have preached and travelled in the East, spreading the word of God. We pray:

  • With thanks for St Matthew’s Gospel writing that has left us with the Word of our Lord and for his own willingness to give up everything to follow Jesus
  • For those who today write, preach and teach the Good News of our Lord; for the work of the Scripture Union, Bible Reading Fellowship and all publishers of Christian writings
  • For the work of HM Revenue & Customs, for their staff, for all tax advisers and accountants; for the work of the Church Commissioners and church treasurers
  • For ourselves that we may have confidence and courage in our Christian journey; or persistence, faith and joy in our own commitment to following the way of Jesus
  • For all churches which are dedicated to St Matthew, for their clergy, congregations, ministry and the communities that they serve

Prayers for Harvest Festival - On Trinity 14 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet WarrenThis week the church celebrates Harvest and, at St Mark’s, we are not only celebrating with a Hog Roast but also supporting the work of the Emmaus Charity. We Pray:

  •  For the work of farmers and food producers, fishermen and all those who bring food to our tables; for those who work in all weathers to pick the crops, tend animals and manage our agricultural countryside
  • For those for whom food is an expensive luxury; for those reliant on food aid to sustain them and their families; for those unsure where their next meal will come from and all those for whom hunger is the reality of life
  • For the work of Foodbanks and community charities helping to alleviate poverty, for their staff and volunteers and for the people they support
  • For the Emmaus charity in its work supporting, housing and encouraging those who are homeless providing them with shelter and hope for their future
  • For our environment and wisdom to be able to balance the need for food with the impact of our food demands; that we may all be good stewards of God’s creation
  • For ourselves that we may daily give thanks for the food and shelter that we enjoy; that we may always see our food as a gift from God brought to us by the hard work of so many others.

Prayers for Trinity 13 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren

As technology advances in so many positive ways, we reflect on those in our society who are left behind or, as a result of the changes, find life difficult. We pray:

  • For those who do not use on-line services; for support, advice and help to access the information they need, for understanding and consideration by providers of the needs of individual people
  • For those who are socially isolated; for people living in rural communities with no access to Banks, Post Offices or shops; for the housebound and disabled that their needs will be recognised
  • For those who are struggling and need the support of the benefits system; for practical help to complete applications and for compassion and kindness from those working with them
  • For those who are at risk of becoming the victim of a scam through emails, text messages, phone calls and social media; for protection, guidance and support
  • For ourselves that God may help us as technology moves on, to put aside our assumptions and judgements; to be thoughtful and understanding of those for whom this is a difficult and complex world.

Intercessions for Trinity 7 by Mr Ian Farthing

Lord God, creator of all things, we come before you with hearts open to your transforming power. As we reflect on the parable of the wheat and the tares, we recognize the potential for growth and change in our lives. Just as the wheat grows and matures under the sun's nourishing rays, we ask that you cultivate us through your Holy Spirit. Remove the tares of sin and selfishness that hinder our spiritual progress. Help us to surrender our lives entirely to you and be receptive to your divine will. May we be like the wheat, rooted in the rich soil of your truth and righteousness. Water us with the living water of your Word, and may our lives bear the fruit of your Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Help us Lord to embrace one another with understanding and compassion, recognizing that we all stand in need of your grace. Teach us to be patient and forgiving, just as you are patient and forgiving towards us.

Lord in your mercy

Lord, in times of trial and testing, strengthen us to endure and persevere. Remind us that you are with us in every circumstance, and your grace is sufficient for us. We pray for the courage to confront the tares within ourselves and in the world around us. Teach us to speak the truth in love and stand firmly against injustice and evil. You are a compassionate and just God, and you hear the cries of your people. We lift up to you those who are burdened by the increasing costs of housing, food, healthcare, education, and other essential necessities. We pray for families who are stretched thin, for those trying to make ends meet, and for those who are facing the threat of homelessness or financial ruin.Grant your comfort to those who are worried and anxious about their financial situations.  May they find peace in the assurance that you are with them, even in the midst of their struggles. Give them strength to endure and wisdom to make sound decisions as they navigate through these challenging times.

Lord in your mercy

Lord, we also pray for our communities and governments. Guide our leaders and policymakers to make wise decisions in addressing climate change and its effects. May they act with urgency and consideration for the well-being of both current and future generations. Grant them the wisdom to prioritize sustainable practices and policies that protect the environment and promote justice for all. We pray for all those around the world who are directly affected by the wildfires, Comfort those who have lost their homes, possessions, and livelihoods. Strengthen the firefighters and emergency responders as they tirelessly work to protect lives and property. Surround them with your safety and support.

Guide our leaders to implement policies that promote fairness, equality, and prosperity for all. Inspire collective efforts to create supportive systems that aid those in need and empower individuals to overcome these hardships. Help us, as a church community, to be attentive to the needs of our neighbours and respond with love and generosity.  May we extend our hands to help, our hearts to understand, and our voices to advocate for justice. Let us be beacons of hope and agents of change in this troubled world.

Lord in your mercy

We pray today for those who sick whether in body or in spirit, that you would be present with them in their times of weakness. Comfort them with your peace that surpasses all understanding and surround them with your unfailing love. We ask that you alleviate their pain and suffering, granting them strength and perseverance as they face this challenging time.

Lord in your mercy

Lord we pray for those who are mourning the loss of someone dear to them, we ask for your comforting embrace. Be their refuge and strength during this time of deep sorrow and grief. Bring to their remembrance the precious memories of their loved one, and grant them the strength to endure the pain of their absence. Jesus Christ is the light of the world a light which no darkness can quench we remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light and love of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light

Prayers for Trinity 6 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren

The 18th July marks Nelson Mandela International Day. This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles of freedom, justice and democracy. We pray for:

  • All those who are oppressed, marginalised and overlooked in their countries; for the Rohingya people of Myanmar, the Uyghur people of China, the women of Afghanistan, Iran and parts of Africa and all who are seen as second-class citizens.
  • All those who speak out for justice and whose voices are silenced or censored; for those who are imprisoned for their differing views and for those who are forced into hiding.
  • For those who daily experience racial, cultural or religious discrimination; for those barred from work, education or housing through prejudice; for those who practice their faith in secret out of fear.
  • For all those countries where populations are denied true democracy; for the needs and voices of all people to be heard and valued by governments and those who have power in societies.
  • For our community of Bedford and ourselves that we may value one another and stand up against any injustices that me may encounter.

Prayers for Trinity 5 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren

Last week, we thought about the apostle St Thomas and this week, return to another Thomas, the Trappist monk, theologian, writer, and social activist, Thomas Merton. His ‘Morning Prayer’, written below, has echoes of the doubts of St Thomas and expresses these thoughts whilst also declaring real faith in God. And so, we pray:

My Lord God,

I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me.

I cannot know for certain where it will end.

nor do I really know myself,

and the fact that I think I am following your will

does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you

does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,

though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore will I trust you always though

I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.

I will not fear, for you are ever with me,

and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Prayer for Easter Sunday

At this Eastertide let us take time to reflect on the following Resurrection Prayer by Kathy Galloway as we pray:

Christ our life, You are alive – in the beauty of the earth, in the rhythm of the seasons, in the mystery of time and space. Alleluia!

Christ our Life, You are alive – in the tenderness of touch, in the heartbeat of intimacy, in the insights of solitude. Alleluia!

Christ our life, You are alive – in the creative possibility, of the dullest conversation, of the dreariest task, the most threatening event. Alleluia!

Christ our life, You are alive – to offer re-creation, to every unhealed hurt, to every deadened place, to every damaged heart. Alleluia!

You set before us a great choice, therefore, we choose life.

The dance of resurrection soars and surges through the whole creation. This is grace, dying we live. So let us Live.

Church Intercessions for Candlemas by Mr Ian Farthing

Loving God like Simeon in the temple we have seen in Jesus your promise of salvation.

We trust that you will hear us as we bring before you our concerns and intercessions as we pray to you through Christ who is our light and our life

Throughout today and every day in every part of your world. countless men and women will worship you, trusting their lives to you and to those promises, and we pray for them.

We pray especially for all who worship at risk of their lives, and ask that you will uphold them in their danger and keep them faithful come what may

We remember all who are called to lead your people and pray for them that they may be given clarity of vision and courage to follow their calling wherever it may lead

We pray for the leaders of the Church in this country as they face the challenges between the call of faith and the impact of society’s vision of justice, care and equality

We pray for the church that it may shine the light of Christ brightly in these dark times, for our own church that its ministry in Brickhill may bring light and hope to the community, for the warm space that we offer that it may be a source of comfort to those who use it

Lord in your mercy

Jesus was called the Prince of Peace and we pray that your promises fulfilled in that title may become real in our time and lives.

May those who exercise power in every land be ruled not only by their heads but by loving hearts and work to create a brotherhood and sisterhood between all men and women and all nations.

We remember the fighting in Ukraine and Russia, Afghanistan, Syria Somalia and Yemen and so many other parts of your world and we pray for all those caught up in these conflicts as participants or victims that they might find peace hope and justice through the light of Christ.

Whatever Jesus calls us individually to do to contribute to peace in our community and our world, may we do it wholeheartedly and with love and vision.

Lord in your mercy

Throughout his life Jesus was with people in their joy and strength and in their weakness and fear. We thank you for the experiences of your nearness in our own lives and we pray that all our neighbours and friends, all those with whom we know at work or in our leisure time, those who we like and who like us, those who we dislike and who dislike us, that all may know your love your light and your presence.

In the quietness of our hearts and minds we remember and pray for those known to us who are in need, in their illness, their loneliness, their agony of mind, as they search for meaning in life, be especially near them today.

We pray for all who work to tend the needy, doctors, nurses, social workers, and those who help to shape lives, parents, teachers in school or nursery, youth workers. May we play our part in building up lives and bringing your love to all.

Lord in your mercy

Simeon saw Jesus as a light for revelation and we remember those who are now in the full light of your heavenly kingdom.

We thank you for their lives and pray that those who mourn them may find comfort, assurance and peace

Jesus Christ is the light of the world a light which no darkness can quench we remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light

Lord in your mercy

As we go into the coming week help us to trust once more in the promise which Jesus brings of life, light and hope, and make us willing to respond to whatever may happen, expected or unexpected, secure in the salvation which Jesus offers us.

Merciful Father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Praying together for Candlemas by Mike and Janet Warren

This week the church celebrates the Presentation of Christ who is the Light of the World. We pray:

  • For the church that it may shine the light of Christ brightly in these dark times; for our own church that its ministry in Brickhill may bring light and hope to the community; for the warm space that we offer that it may be a source of comfort to those who use it.
  • For the world that all its people may find peace, hope and justice through the light of Christ; for the people of Ukraine and Russia, Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria and the Yemen; for global leaders that they may strive earnestly in their endeavours for world peace and the relief of suffering.
  • For those in need that they may be comforted and strengthened through Christ who walks their journey with them; for those we know personally who are in need or are unwell; for those that bring light and hope through their caring
  • For grace in our human frailty to put all our trust in God’s promises and patience to wait in faith
  • With thanks for the example of Simeon and Anna, and pray that we too may recognise Christ when we meet him along our way.

The Church of England Prayer for Refugees

Almighty and merciful God, whose Son became a refugee  and had no place to call his own; look with mercy on those who today are fleeing from danger, homeless and hungry. Bless those who work to bring them relief;  inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts;  and guide the nations of the world towards that day when all will rejoice in your Kingdom of justice and of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Praying together for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity by Mike and Janet Warren

This Wednesday is the start of the week of prayer for Christian unity. As we continue through the season of Epiphany, we give thought to the worldwide church. We pray:

  • With thanks for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the joy of Mary & Joseph, the worship of the shepherds and the gifts of the Magi as they all see the glory of God brought into our world
  • That all Christians may recognise and accept the glorious diversity of worship and spirituality that exist in God’s church family; for joy to be the hallmark of all Christians as we worship our one God
  • For our brothers and sisters in the Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed churches; for us all to work and worship in harmony to serve those in need and those who are looking for God
  • For Archbishop Justin, Pope Francis, Bartholomew the Ecumenical Patriarch and all Christian Leaders that they will continue to bring us all together in unity and that they will know the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in their ministries
  • For the worldwide Church continuing to reach out in so many different ways to its community particularly at this time of economic crisis and increasing social division
  • For the churches in Bedford, their ministers and church families and for ourselves that we may work and pray for the unity of God’s church

Praying together at Epiphany by Mike and Janet Warren

This Sunday is the beginning of the season of Epiphany when we recall the journey of the Wise Men to bring gifts to the infant Jesus. We pray:

  • For our eyes to be open to the Light that has come into the world to guide us; to have the courage to follow that path and for a strong faith to know that the light will overcome the darkness of our troubled world
  • With thanks for the gifts that we each have and we pray for the willingness to offer them freely and with joy; give us the wisdom to discern those gifts however small or insignificant they may seem to us
  • For energy to continue the difficult journey through the economic pressures in our country and the world; grant us patience, hope and courage
  • That we may recognise and be thankful for all the gifts we see around us in our church, families and community; help us to see you at work
  • As the New Year begins may we, like Mary, treasure God at work in our lives and go forward in faith ready to meet the difficult situations that may come as well as the joys and celebrations
