  • For the worldwide Church; Grant to the church light to know the will of God and the grace to perform it; for discernment as the church looks to appoint a new Archbishop of Canterbury; for all clergy, lay readers and church workers praying for the Holy Spirit to continue to guide, strengthen and encourage them
  • That the peace of Christ our King maybe known throughout the world, in those countries ravaged by war and civil unrest, breaking down all the barriers that divide nations and drawing people together for the common good
  • That the love of Christ our King may comfort and uphold all who suffer; praying for those in our community and those we know personally; we pray for the residents of Cleat Hill. Strengthen all those individuals and organisations who work to bring relief to those in need
  • For ourselves that the glory, majesty and example of Christ our King will fill our hearts and lives with a deeper compassion and open our eyes to see the presence of Christ in all people

This Sunday marks the second week of the COP29 Conference and our prayers focus on this major event in world history. We pray:

  • For those country representatives working to find mutual solutions to the challenge of climate change; For the lead negotiators with heavy responsibilities and high expectations; For global leaders that there may be a real willingness to implement agreements.
  • For those countries with very limited resources that they may receive the support that is promised and that they may be able to create the change that is needed.
  • For organisations and charities working at the conference that their voices may be heard and listened to; For encouragement and support in their work.
  • For businesses promoting solutions that there may be an emphasis on real efforts to solve the problems of the climate emergency; For shareholders and investors that they may seek to work for the greater good above simple profit.
  • For our young people whose future depends on the outcomes of the conference and are looking to the older generations for action; For those who protest that they may do so safely and with respect.
  • For ourselves that we may do the small things that will make a difference and that we may daily give thanks for the world that God has created for us.

This week we celebrate the saints who have gone before us and whose example we look to for inspiration in our own lives. We pray:

  • With thanksgiving for the example of the saints who shape our lives today through our churches, through stories of their courage and faith, and through their writings and teaching.
  • With thanksgiving for the courage and faith of our Patron Saint, St. Mark; For his discipleship and for the spreading of the Gospel.
  • With thanksgiving for the life and example of St. Alban, Britain’s first Saint and for our Cathedral Church named in his honour
  • For those modern-day saints that we see showing God’s love through works of charity, self-sacrifice, humility and love in our world today;
  • For all those working in areas of desperate need, caring for the sick and dying and giving their own lives in service.
  • For ourselves as we bring our concerns for our world and others along with our own needs to our Lord, that we may join with the whole company of saints in prayer and praise.

Intercessions for use in church by Richard Ledger

Your glory fills the earth and the heavens. You are the maker of every good thing. You pour love into our lives. Give us open hearts to receive your love, open minds to know your love and open hands to share your love. (Lord in yor love, hear our prayer)

Loving God we know we are called to be a body of Christ; make us worthy of that calling, faithful in all our prayer and worship, loving and honest in our lives, so that we may show what you are like - welcoming and loving. In all the decision making of our Church we ask for your guidance and encouragement. In all our worship and outreach we ask you to lead us. (Lord in your love, hear our prayer)

Loving God we pray for the community in which we are set. Especially today we remember before you the tragic explosion in Cleat Hill a week ago and all the people involved and impacted. The house explosion and a death and critical injury: we pray your peace and comfort on their loved ones. We bring to you the shock and dislocation in the lives of those evacuated, may they continue to find support and hope from the local community and open communication with the Health and Safety Executive and other experts that they may all know what is going on. May all the investigations and decisions be clear and we pray for a safe resolution of the basic problem. (Lord in your love, hear our prayer)

Loving God, we lay before you the political issues, the moral dilemmas and the dreams of peace that concern our world. In Gaza; the West Bank; Lebanon; Ukraine; Sudan. May your love overcome hatred and despair. We pray for the healing of the nations; for the recognition of our need of you. We pray for all in authority and power, that they may be guided along the right paths to seek the good of all. That we and all people may increasingly work together to establish on earth the rule of the Kingdom of Heaven; that there may be peace and freedom from end to end of the earth. (Lord in your love, hear our prayer)

Loving God , we pray for those whose lives are tragically disrupted by war and famine, poverty and disease - especially children growing up to know nothing but chaos and a living hell .We ask you to be with all who walk in darkness; may your love and light protect the depressed and despairing; may your strength and hope be known to the discouraged. We ask your blessing to all who are ill at home or in hospital or care home. We pray for all who are nearing death and for their loved ones in their time of anxiety. Bless al who are in a hospice and all who have the care of the terminally ill. Today we remember Douglas Woods. (Lord in your love, hear our prayer)

In a time of quiet we bring to you any known to us in special need at this time. Finally loving God, we thank you for all the Saints in the Glorious light of your eternity, all those who inspired us and whose memory we share. Today we remember ___

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. So, we commend with confidence to your everlasting love those who have died and we light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.

Praying together the Last Sunday after Trinity by Mike and Janet Warren

The tragic explosion on Cleat Hill recently has brought distress, confusion and the displacement of many residents. This week we think about all those impacted by these events as we pray:

  • For the soul of the resident whose house was destroyed and for his relative critically ill in hospital; for their family and friends coming to terms with loss and worry.
  • For all the residents who have been evacuated from their homes; for help in their bewilderment, practical support in their needs and a listening ear as they share their experiences and worries; we pray that their displacement will come to an end as soon as it is safe.
  • For Emergency Service workers giving thanks for their speedy response to an unprecedented event; for patience as they deal with many unanswered questions, for empathy, wisdom and compassion.
  • For the Scientists and Experts involved in finding a permanent solution; we give thanks for their expertise and pray for wisdom, courage and confidence in the decisions they will need to make.
  • For the Borough Council as it responds to the needs of this community; we pray that resources may be found, that communication may be open and honest and that practical help can be provided to all those affected.
  • For our church family as it provides support and shelter to those in need. We give thanks for the opportunity to serve in practical ways and pray that Christ may be seen at work in our church family.

Praying together this week Trinity 20 by Mike and Janet Warren

Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to You.

Make us Your own, Your Holy people. Light for the world to see.

  • Holy Lord, we pray for your light to shine into the darkness of our war-torn, violent and hurting world; we pray for peace in the Middle East, Ukraine and Russia, Sudan and all places of conflict.
  • Holy Lord, we pray for your light to shine into the darkness of your battered, exploited and struggling created world; we pray for the people of Florida and all those whose lives have been turned upside down by fire, flooding and extreme weather events.
  • Holy Lord, we pray for your light to shine into the darkness of our prejudiced, angry, opinionated society where the social media troll hides and lives are damaged; we pray for harmony in our communities, an acceptance of difference and a celebration of diversity.
  • Holy Lord, we pray for your light to shine into the long dark nights of those who suffer pain, illness or mental ill-health; we pray for healing, comfort, reassurance and compassion for all those for whom life is a struggle.
  • Holy Lord, we pray for your light to shine into our lives with all our differences, challenges, problems and demands upon us; we pray that we may be constant in faith, hope and love as we make our journey with you.

Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts. Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light! Shine in your church gathered today

Praying together this week Trinity 19 Year B by Mike and Janet Warren  6 Ocober 2024

Wednesday of this week marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week. We think about all those whose lives are affected by this tragedy as we pray:

  • Holy Lord, we hold up to your loving open arms the parents who have lost babies and young children; we pray for them in their pain, bewilderment, anger, and grief as their lives take a turn that they never predicted; for compassion, understanding and the ability for us to find the right words that will comfort.
  • Holy Lord, we hold up to your guiding hands Midwives, doctors and Health Visitors as they care for mother and baby, bringing skill, empathy, a listening ear and their own grief; we pray for all those who come alongside mother and baby at the time of parting asking for your love to shine in all that they do.
  • Holy Lord, we hold up to your unfailing wisdom the Charities and organisations that offer help, hope and a way forward for those who have lost a child; we pray that they will have the time, resources and knowledge that will guide parents gently through the long road ahead.
  • Holy Lord, we hold up to your open arms the wider families of all those experiencing baby or child loss; we pray that you will support them as they grieve one step removed yet experiencing similar pain and anguish; we pray that you will help them to be there when needed and to give space when asked.
  • Holy Lord, we entrust into your eternal love, the souls of all those babies and young children who have died; you commanded us to let all the children come unto you and we pray that they will be resting in peace, life eternal, and joy in your presence.

Praying together this week Trinity 18 by Mike and Janet Warren   29 September 2024

This Friday, 4th October, we remember Saint Francis of Assisi. Known for seeing God in all creation, for his vow of utter poverty, for his preaching and peace-making, we use his example as we pray:

  • Holy Lord, we see the example of St Francis in his love of creation; we pray for the world you created for us as it struggles with our mistreatment, neglect and greed for the abundant resources you gave us. We pray for healing of the Earth, for your help to restore the balance of creation and for commitment to be good stewards of all that you gave us
  • Holy Lord, we see the example of Saint Francis in his work for peace; as our world becomes increasingly violent and war-torn, we pray for your peace to flood the nations, for swords to be turned into ploughshares and for world leaders to seek a path to lasting peace for all. We pray for those caught up in war and ask for your protection and reassurance in their fear.
  • Holy Lord, we see the example of St Francis in his life of poverty; we pray for all those whose life is marked by desperate poverty, lack of food, shelter, respect and dignity. We pray that all those in such need will be lifted up and that we may be there to walk alongside them.
  • Holy Lord, we see the example of St Francis in his body marked by the sign of the cross. We pray that our lives will be marked by faith and love, and that we may carry our crosses with courage, joy and hope in life eternal.

Praying together this week Trinity 17 for Fairtrade by Mike and Janet Warren  22 September 2024

Sunday marks the end of Fairtrade Fortnight during which the Fairtrade Foundation has celebrated its 30th Anniversary. The Foundation says’” Seeking a fair deal for the people who produce what we use is part of our Christian obligation to love our neighbour and to strive for justice. That’s why we’re working to make trade fairer.” We pray:

  • For Farm workers in all countries who rely for survival on the exports of their products.
  • For those who supply us with our staples of rice, sugar, bananas, coffee, tea, chocolate, cotton and many other products, who are often on minimal incomes and working long hours in hard conditions.
  • For the governments of Developing countries struggling to repay international debt whilst facing inequality in Global trade deals.
  • For the work of the Fairtrade Foundation and its partners as they fight for the rights of small producers.
  • For ourselves that we may appreciate the value of our food and the worth of those who produce it for us.

Praying together this week Trinity 16 by Mike and Janet Warren  15 September 2024

As autumn begins, we consider the changing season and reflect on God’s creation and the part it plays in our lives. We pray:

  • With thanks for the summer we have enjoyed with long days and kaleidoscope of colours and plants
  • With expectation as autumn slowly replaces summer, changing the colours of the landscape and ripening the fruits that will be food for the wildlife
  • With wonder at the mysteries of migration, witnessing birds flying thousands of miles to their winter homes and wildlife spontaneously preparing for the winter that approaches
  • With sorrow for the times when we have not cared for God’s creation and when we have taken it for granted
  • For God’s help that we may be good stewards of His created world

In the words of Hildegard of Bingen, who the church remembers on Tuesday,

Like billowing clouds, like the incessant gurgle of the brook,

the longing of the spirit can never be stilled

Glance at the sun. See the moon and the stars.

Gaze at the beauty of the earth’s greenings. Now, think.

· For farmers caring for livestock and crops throughout the year in challenging economic conditions

· For food producers, fishermen and all those who bring food to our tables; for those who work in all weathers to pick the crops, tend animals and manage our agricultural countryside

· For our environment and wisdom to be able to balance the need for food with the impact of our food demands; that we may all be good stewards of God’s creation

· For ourselves that we may daily give thanks for the food and shelter that we enjoy; that we may always see our food as a gift from God brought to us by the hard work of so many others.

Praying this week Trinity 14 by Mike and Janet Warren   1 September 2024

As our News channels are filled with the increasing tension and violence of war around the globe, we renew our prayers for Peace as we pray:

· For the people of Ukraine and Russia; with the escalation in fighting, and rhetoric from Leaders across the International community, we pray that there may be the opportunity for Peace talks and a genuine, lasting reconciliation on both sides.

· For the people of Palestine, Israel, Lebanon and Iran; as the prospect of outright war in the Middle East seems increasingly possible, we pray for a ceasefire and for those working diplomatically to achieve this; we pray for all innocent victims, for all hostages, refugees and the displaced; for the political Leaders of the region that they may have the courage and will to put aside war and seek peace.

· For Central Africa where war continues to rage and Mpox is bringing suffering to thousands of children and adults; we pray for an end to the fighting to allow vaccines supply and humanitarian aid.

“Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth, a peace that was meant to be.

With God as our Father, we are family.

Let us walk with each other, in perfect harmony

Let peace begin with me, let peace be the moment now

With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow

To take each moment, and live each moment, in peace eternally

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me”

  • For the Quaker movement and all organisations working for a lasting peace in our troubled world; for negotiators, intermediaries, global leaders and campaigners
  • For those who are oppressed for their beliefs and suffer persecution for expressing them; for political prisoners, hostages, protestors and those whose lives are restricted and are marked by fear
  • For those whose lives are dedicated to bringing relief of poverty at home and abroad through provision of housing, medical help, education, food and protection
  • For our country where we have experienced a time of civil unrest and extremism, that the voice of peace and social justice may be heard against the clamour of prejudice and violence

Praying this week Trinity 12 by Mike and Janet Warren

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live for ever”.

We pray for our Church and for the world:

  • Father, give grace to the church faithfully to offer the communion of the body and blood of the Lord, that her people shall be spiritually nourished in receiving it and may we abide in fellowship with you and one another
  • Father, as Christ suffered death in the flesh for the life of the world, grant that the people of this present world may find new life in him and that there may be peace among all nations
  • Father, create in us, in our families, and all around us, the love that grows from the communion of the faithful. May that love flourish in our community
  • Father, come in compassion and feed the hungry; be with those who struggle daily to find food and provide for their families and with those whose souls are hungry for you
  • Father, we pray for those who have eaten the bread of life in this world and gone to their rest; we pray for those we know personally and those known only to you. May they rest in peace.

Mary Sumner’s personal prayer

All this day, O Lord, let me touch as many lives as possible for Thee; and every life I touch, do thou by thy spirit quicken, whether through the word I speak, the prayer I breathe, or the life I live. Amen.

God our Father, we pray for your church today, gathering all around the world in tiny churches and great cathedrals, to praise you, to hear your holy word and to meet you in bread and wine. Give us a sense of expectation as we come in and inspiration as we go out. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

  • We pray for your blessing to rest upon this Church. We are grateful for its worship and fellowship; for the care and teaching of children and young people; for its nurture and love. We praise you for our country, its beauty, the riches it has for us and the gifts it showers on us. We thank you for your people, the gift of languages we speak, the variety of races we have, the cultural heritage we cherish. Grant that we accept these gifts with thankfulness and use them for the good of the human race and to bring glory to you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer
  • We pray for a world which struggles to live justly and in peace. We pray for those who have to search for daily food or walk long distances for clean water. We remember with sadness those whose lives are cut short by disease or violence, and those who have fled their homes in fear. We pray for those who meet persecution and torture with courage and dignity. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died, and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. Today we remember ..... • For those who have died in the service of Peacekeeping, for their families and comrades
  • For those who are working for peace as negotiators, intermediaries and advisors; for resolve in difficult circumstances, for support in their work and for hope in all that they do
  • For peace in areas of war; for Ukraine and Russia, Gaza and Israel, Sudan, Myanmar and the Yemen; for all parts of our world where conflict, oppression and violence are the everyday reality
  • Bessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God; we pray that we will have peace in our hearts, our thoughts and our daily actions with all those that we meet.

Praying together together this week - Pentecost by Mike and Janet Warren 19 May 2024

As we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples at Pentecost we pray:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people and kindle in us the fire of your love; fill the hearts of your Church that it may be strong in faith and courage to proclaim the word of God and His love for His people in all places and situations

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people and kindle in us the fire of your love; flood the nations with peace, joy and hope in the face of war, violence, tragedy and desperation; may Your Spirit work in all of us to be peace-makers

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people and kindle in us the fire of your love; sustain all who work to heal, care, support and be alongside those who suffer illness, fear, uncertainty about their future or are nearing the end of their lives

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people and kindle in us the fire of your love; comfort those who are walking the paths and roads of the world, drifting in small boats or hiding in lorries in search of a better life; move the hearts of all of us to stretch out our arms in love

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people and kindle in us the fire of your love; fill us Lord with the gifts of the Holy Spirit that we may reach out to all in love, joy and peace as witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of eternal life

Church Intercessions for Easter 7 by Morag - 12 May 2024

Loving God from whom every gift derives, we gather to worship you today. We have come to you in thanksgiving and praise, to know that you are God and to place our lives anew into your presence. Enlarge our vision with your Word. Instil in us, your hope, your peace, your joy and your love. May your Holy Spirit surround and dwell in this congregation now, and forever more.

  • We pray for our own Church, for the progress of Christ’s mission here at St Marks and seek God’s guidance and help in the tasks to which he has called us in this parish. Guide us by your Holy Spirit that our worship may be a worthy offering to you and may attract, include and inspire people of all ages; that our inner life of prayer and our attention to scripture may be nurtured, and that the journey of faith may not be seen as only for the few; that children and young people may be listened to, encouraged, and challenged to become committed Christians; that our church premises may convey a message of openness, be a means of Christian service, and forge effective links with community groups; that we can reach out to those on the fringes of faith or outside it and be proactive in meeting social and community needs. Give us the vision and clarity that we need as a church: show us the specific directions we should take, give us the courage to experiment and move forwards and enable adequate resources to be found for the vision to be carried forward into action. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer
  • We pray for our children as they grow up in our family circle. Give us understanding of their needs and show us how best we can support them as they face their problems and prepare for life in the world. Help us to establish a relationship of trust between them and ourselves and to make our homes a place where at all times they may find love and security. We remember young people who are sitting public exams and pray that their efforts will be justly rewarded and that they will achieve what is necessary to move forward along their chosen path. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer
  • We pray for our hospitals and nursing homes. For the work and devotion of doctors, nurses and carers whose skill and compassion bring both physical and spiritual comfort at times of need. We ask for your loving compassion on all whose lives have been marred by tragedy of any kind. We pray for all who are downcast or fearful. We remember those who await a doctor’s diagnosis or an operation. We pray for all who seek healing and hope and we bring before you those most in need in our own community, the elderly, the housebound and those in care. Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer
  • We pray for families throughout the world who have lost loved ones this week both through tragic events and through natural causes. We pray for those whose hearts have been saddened by the death of someone close and dear to them, for members of our families who have died and whose anniversary we recall. Help us to experience the comfort of the Holy Spirit within us, and the fellowship of the church family around us until we are reunited once more in your heavenly kingdom.
  • Jesus Christ is the light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen

Today is the beginning of Christian Aid Week. The focus of their campaign is to combat poverty throughout the world. We pray:

With thanks for the work of Christian Aid, and all charities supporting the most disadvantaged people in society at home and around the world; for the staff and volunteers, bringing support and hope

  • For all countries suffering the effects of the global economic situation and the impacts of climate change; for practical help to be available and affordable for all those in need in God’s world
  • For the work of the United Nations, UNICEF and the leaders of the most prosperous nations, that they may work in harmony to relieve suffering, poverty, despair and the destructive effects of our changing climate
  • For the work of the many food banks working in our own country to bring much-needed food and daily essentials to those in need; for our local Bedford food bank, its staff, and volunteers, and all those who use its service
  • For ourselves as we try to discern the right thing to do in the face of many competing demands on our time, money and capacity; for a listening ear to hear God’s guidance and persistence in faith, hope and love

Praying together together this week - Sixth Sunday of Easter by Mike and Janet Warren   5 May 2024

On Wednesday the church remembers Mother Julian of Norwich. As one of our East Anglian spiritual writers, Mother Julian’s work has been a constant source of inspiration, contemplation and comfort since the 15th Century. We reflect on one of her daily readings taken from the book ‘Enfolded in Love’.

“He showed me a little thing, the size of a hazelnut, in the palm of my hand, and it was as round as a ball. I looked at it with my mind’s eye and I thought, ‘What can this be? And answer came, it is all that is made.’ I marvelled that it could last, for I thought it might have crumbled to nothing, it was so small. And the answer came into my mind, ‘It lasts and ever shall because God loves it.’ And all things have being through the love of God.

In this little thing I saw three truths. The first is that God made it. The second is that God loves it. The third is that God looks after it.

What is he indeed that is maker and lover and keeper? I cannot find words to tell. For until I am one with Him, I can never have true rest nor peace. I can never know it until I am held so close to Him that there is nothing in between.”

Praying together together this week - Fifth Sunday of Easter by Mike and Janet Warren   28 April 2024

  • For our university students, as they submit dissertations, sit exams and plan the next stages of their university or work life
  • For all those whose role is to educate, nurture, teach, lecture and examine; we give thanks for their vocation and pray that they may have the knowledge, wisdom and caring-skills to support our children and young people as they experience these important stages in their lives
  • For all schools, universities and colleges in Bedford; we pray for their staff and governors

Church Intercessions for the Third Sunday after Easter by Gerladine  14 April 20024

Christ, our risen Lord, no tomb can keep you, no door is closed to you, no heart is barred to you, no mind is shut off from you. Come lead us out of darkness into light, out of doubt into faith, out of death into life eternal:

  • Jesus Christ our risen Lord. We pray for all who witness to your resurrection, those who speak of your presence, for preachers of the word and ministers of the sacrament; for those who reveal your presence by the way they live. We pray for all who are in doubt and for all who are seeking you. We pray for unity in the church and in the world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • Jesus Christ our Risen Lord, we rejoice in your resurrection, we sing Hallelujah and we are here in your house to worship, sing your praises and pray in your name. For so many, dear Lord, this is not possible. The war in Gaza and the war in Ukraine mean that life for many is about surviving and in Gaza is about food, water and medicine too. In Iran the Christian’s celebrate in secret and face prison and interrogation if they are found out. We pray for all those who want to worship but life for them is just about survival. Let them know the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • Thank you Lord for our homes, schools and communities here in Brickhill. Thank you for our church family, our families, our friends and all the support we have around us. We know our living God. We bring before you today those people that are lonely, depressed or ill. We pray that they will see your light and feel the warmth and comfort of your Holy Spirit their lives. We pray for the charities and groups, community services and the various organisations that try to reach out and identify those at risk. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • We pray that the people with wealth, power and influence, those who govern, the negotiators, will use their power with fairness, understanding and compassion for all people. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • We pray for our friends and family who may be poorly in mind or body, the nurses and carers in hospital and those caring for loved ones at home. We also pray for those who have lost loved ones recently, for all those who live in our hearts and minds. May they find comfort in your sustaining and everlasting love. We will have a moments silence to remember those loved ones. ........................................ Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. Today we remember Brian Hodgson, Peter Davies, Pam Tobin and Grace Mary Foster. You turn our darkness into light and in your light shall we see light. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Lord Jesus. Amen

  • The Easter message to be heard in those places that try to silence it
  • Those who cannot profess their faith openly through fear of persecution or death

  • Our faith to radiate the love of Christ in our lives, homes and community and for courage to proclaim the Good News of Easter with confidence, assurance and joy

Church Intercessions for Easter Sunday by Morag Sewart   31 March 2024

The bidding today: Hear us Risen Lord  Response: Our Resurrection and our Life

  • On this the Holiest day of the Christian calendar, we thank you Lord that Jesus lived on earth as an ordinary person and yet by his death and Resurrection, is alive and reigns with the Father. We join with members of your family all across the world to offer praise and adoration for Jesus – Jesus alive, powerful and victorious. We rejoice that in Jesus all that separates and injures and destroys has been overcome by what unites and heals and creates. Hear us Risen Lord - Our Resurrection and our Life
  • Creator Lord, we pray for the world you made, thanking you for signs of new life and hope: We praise you for our country, its beauty, the riches it has for us and the gifts it showers on us. We thank you for your people, the gift of languages we speak, the variety of races we have, the cultural heritage we cherish. Grant that we accept these gifts with thankfulness and use them for the good of the human race and to bring glory to you. Hear us Risen Lord - Our Resurrection and our Life
  • Merciful Lord, amidst our Easter joy, we ask for your loving compassion on all whose lives have been marred by tragedy of any kind. Look with mercy on those who are living in war torn countries, those who are injured, those who are fleeing from danger, those who are homeless, those who are hungry, those who are grieving the loss of loved one. Bless those who work to bring them relief; inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts. Help us to believe that all things are possible, that nations can make peace, that men and women can love their enemies, that justice can prevail. Hear us Risen Lord - Our Resurrection and our Life
  • Forgiving Lord, you know the needs of human life. We ask you to help us as we seek to live our lives according to your example. Help us by your presence to overcome our hasty speech that hurts others; to be free from greed and selfishness, from pride and jealousy, that spoil our lives. Let your presence help us to care about the feelings of others, to be gentle, and ready to say we are sorry. You saw deep into the hearts of those around you. You knew the arrogance of Peter, the pride of James and John, the hatred of your enemies. But you never stopped loving and sought to bring the best out of them. Bring the best out of us, so that our lives may reflect your way for the world. Hear us Risen Lord - Our Resurrection and our Life
  • Loving God, we place in your gentle hands all those who are sick. Ease their pain, and heal the damage done to them in body, mind or spirit. Be present with them through the support of family and friends and in the care of doctors and nurses, and fill them with the warmth of your love, now and always. Hear us Risen Lord - Our Resurrection and our Life
  • Father God, we pray for those we love, but no longer see and remember them in our hearts today. Jesus Christ is the light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope.
  • You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light. Risen Lord Jesus, on this, Easter day, may the wonder of your resurrection dawn in in our hearts and take root in our lives, quietly, steadily, and with love. Merciful father ….

Church Prayers and Intercessions for Palm Sunday by Mike and Janet Warren    2024

As we move through the days of Holy Week, we reflect on the events that we see unfolding and follow our Lord to the cross. We pray:

  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the entry into Jerusalem, help us daily to proclaim you as Lord and to be joyful in our faith
  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the Last Supper, help us to be the servant of others and to see you in the breaking of the bread
  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the garden of Gethsemane. Help us in our prayers that we may have the confidence to pray without ceasing
  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the whips and abuse, help us to stand up against violence and hatred, calling out where we see injury to others
  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the corruption and hatred against you, help us to cry for justice and peace in a world that is caught up in self and prejudice
  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the pain of the cross and the nails, help us to be alongside those in physical and mental pain, to reach out and to bring comfort
  • Jesus Christ, Lord of the borrowed tomb, help us to weep with those who mourn, to share in their sorrow and to bring them the hope of everlasting life

Church Prayers and Intercessions for the Fifth Sunday of Lent by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

In our world where war rages, we see two significant events, the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine and the ceasefire talks being held to bring relief to the people of Gaza along with the release of hostages. We pray:

  • For peace in our broken and divided world; Lord we pray that you will stretch out your hand to bring peace to a world of destruction, pain and misery; for swords to be turned into ploughshares and that the hands that seek to destroy will be turned to hands of friendship
  • For the people of Ukraine; Lord we pray for protection, courage and endurance in the face of tyranny, for hope and trust that peace will come, for the international community that it will be steadfast in supporting the territorial independence of all countries
  • For the people of Gaza; Lord we pray that their world of hunger, despair and loss can be turned to calm and relief through the negotiations for a ceasefire; for a lasting peace that recognises the hurts on both sides of the conflict and for long-standing differences to be reconciled
  • For the people of Israel; Lord we pray for the safety and release of hostages, for hope for their relatives and for their life of uncertainty to be transformed into a life of peace and contentment
  • For world leaders; Lord we pray for your wisdom to guide those who make decisions that affect all those in the path of war, for integrity, compassion and a willingness not to turn away from those who suffer, for those who advise leaders and for all those working for peace
  • For all those organisations bringing humanitarian aid, medical skills and comfort to the war weary; Lord we pray that you will protect and sustain them in their work

Church Intercessions for Mothering Sunday Lent 4 by Geraldine  10 March 2024

Loving God, we thank you for all the people who have mothered us throughout our lives. For all who have held us and fed us, cared for us and comforted us. We pray for new mothers experiencing changes they could not predict. Grant them rest and trust in you. We pray for girls and women who think about whether to become mothers. Grant them patience and discernment. We pray for mothers who are raising their children in poverty. Grant them courage and relief. We pray for mothers who face the demands of single parenthood. We pray for step-mothers, godmothers, and all men and women who have assumed a mother’s role in a child’s life. Grant them joy and appreciation of others. We pray for those people present who grieve the loss of a mother, and for mothers who have lost children. Grant them comfort, healing, and the hope of Christ’s resurrection. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Dear Lord, We thank you for our church family and our community here in Brickhill. We thank you for our lives of relative safety and security, our democracy, our homes and the food on our table. We bring before you all those suffering so much in the wars in Gaza and Ukraine . We pray for the international community to use their power, resources and energy for the good of all the people so that they too may have their homes and their families and that much needed peace in your world. Lord, in your mercy hear our prayers.

We pray for friends and family who may be poorly in body or mind, and the dedicated carers, looking after our loved ones. We pray for those who have lost loved ones recently, and for all those who live in our hearts and minds. May they find comfort in your sustaining and everlasting love. We will have a moments silence to remember our loved ones. ............................................... Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. Today we remember.......................... Church Intercessions for the Third Sunday of Lent by Mike and Janet Warren    2024

On the 4th March the RNLI celebrates 200 years since its foundation. Since then, it has saved thousands of lives and continues to provide support and rescue around our coastline. We pray:

  • With thanks for the vision of Sir William Hillary in creating a service dedicated to saving lives at sea; we give thanks that his work continues to this day
  • For all those who give their time as volunteers on our lifeboats and give thanks for their skill and commitment; for their safety at sea, for their families and friends who watch and wait for their return
  • For all those who, today, find themselves in peril on the sea; for their rescue, safety and care in their difficulty. As Jesus calmed the storm, we pray for safe passage for all on the sea.
  • For the souls of all those who have lost their lives at sea, may they rest in peace; for their families and friends who may never have had the opportunity to see their loved ones after they set off on their final journey
  • With thanks for all those who support the RNLI as volunteers in shops, fund-raising, education and personal giving; we pray that through their work and donations, the RNLI will continue its work now and into the future

Church Intercessions for the First Sunday of Lent by Mr Richard Ledger  2024

Let us pray

  • Most holy Lord, you were tempted, as we are; when we fall lift us up, when we are in error direct us. In all our wanderings, be our guide.
  • Lord God, as Lent begins, we pray for our Church Family. For all who lead and who serve and worship here, all the people who come to our premises that you will help us to seek your Kingdom, that we will stand against evil and seek good, that in our weakness and uncertainty we may know your strength and protection that we may all discover more of your love that never fails, no matter who we are and what our weaknesses. Loving God, deep down, we know, as the hymn says, 'the light is stronger than the darkness and the day will overcome the light' for you overcame all the forces of evil when you raised Jesus from the dead. So the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, but when we come to pray for our world and its leaders we echo the psalmists in saying “How long O Lord , how long.” So today we beg you by a miracle of your grace to change the mindset of those in authority and those who perpetrate violence that leads to the horrors that we see on our TV screens, especially in Gazza and Ukraine. We pray for peace, justice , hope and reconciliation and will you let us know what you want us to do.
  • Loving God we bring to you our domestic scene – with economic and social issues and division in the news. We ask that the coming General Election may not just see joint secrecy and rubbishing of policies but rather that issues of justice, truth, honesty and humility may be addressed and thus your kingdom advanced.
  • Loving and compassionate God we bring to you our loved ones and all those who care for us and about us, who enrich our everyday lives. May we all experience your love, wide as the ocean. We ask that all we know who are ill or troubled may know your deep peace that keep them and us in your strong hands of love.
  • Finally Loving God, we give you thanks and praise for all who have triumphed over evil and temptation and who now serve you in the peace of your kingdom. May we, at the last, share with them in glory. Today we remember loved ones, together with Alexi Navelny and all victims of violence and oppression. Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. So we commend with confidence to your everlasting love those who have died and we light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. You turn our darkness into light, in your light shall we see light” Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son our saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Church Intercessions for the First Sunday of Lent by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

Last Wednesday we began our Lenten journey and we are encouraged to pray, reflect and consider our gifts that can be

used to help others. So, we pray:

  • For the worldwide church, that it may renew and reinvigorate its mission in the world during this time of Lent; for unity of the Church in a divided and hurting world; for its leaders and church communities that they may hear and act upon God’s word to them.
  • For the world, that there may be Peace and healing of its people and nations; for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, Gaza and Israel, and in all countries where there is oppression and conflict; be with them in their fear, confusion, uncertainty and loss; for Global Leaders in the difficult decisions that they have to make and for the work of the United Nations.
  • For our community, that differences may be reconciled and past hurts forgotten that helping hands may be outstretched to those in need.
  • For the sick and those who call out for rest and relief, that they may be heard, comforted and healed; for those caring for a loved one that they may be strengthened and supported.
  • For each of us on our Lenten Pilgrimage that we may find time in busy lives to be still and listen for God’s call to each one of us.

Church Intercessions for Sunday next before Lent by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

The World Day of the Sick was instituted by Pope John Paul II. This is the 32nd year since its inception so our theme this week focuses on all those who are sick. We pray:

  • Lord, lay your healing hands on all those of our family, friends and acquaintances who are sick; for those who are remote from us we pray for support, for those who are alone we pray for companionship and for those who are anxious we pray for peace of mind.
  • Lord, lay your healing hands on those in our community who are unwell; we pray that they will receive the care that they need, the help and support to recover, and the medical services that they may require
  • Lord, lay your healing hands on those who are sick throughout your world; for those with little or no access to healthcare, those suffering dangerous tropical diseases and those living in war-torn countries
  • Lord, lay your comforting hands on those whose illness is bringing them to the end of their lives; may they be surrounded with love, reassurance and comfort
  • Lord, stretch out your arms to all those who work in our NHS and all healthcare services throughout the world; for resilience and strength when faced with overwhelming demand, for patience and calm when faced with anger and for compassion when faced with tears

Church Intercessions for Candlemas by Morag Stewart    2024

  • Loving God, in Jesus you know what it is to be human and you understand the concerns and needs we all carry for ourselves and for others. Hear us as we pray to you now for help, healing and guidance in your church and in the world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
  • As we remember how Jesus was presented as a baby in the Temple, we remember Simeon’s declaration that he is the Light of the World. Lord, you have sent us a light to enlighten the nations, and yet still there are people who live in darkness. We pray for all the darkness in this world, for those whose lives are threatened by violence, war or terrorism; for those oppressed by cruelty and injustice; for those deprived of food and water, by greed and indifference to their suffering. Increase the small flames you have created in our lives that we might bring your light into the darkness. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • Let us pray for our own communities: for families whose relationships are being tested and strained; for families suffering financial hardship; for families struggling with ill health and bereavement. Help us to play our part in reaching out across the generation gap that can so easily divide us. Teach the old to learn from the enthusiasm of the young, and their ability to see new flowers in the garden of life. And teach the young that the old, too, may have something to teach them, the ability to see things from a less rushed perspective, when the fever of doing gives way to the peace of simply being. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • Let us pray for the world-wide Christian Church in all its diversity, bringing the elements of different cultures into their worship and in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ. Especially we pray for those churches who meet together in difficult and often dangerous circumstances. Let them know and feel your all abiding presence to both uphold their courage and strengthen their faith. Transform our darkest places with your light.
  • In our own church we pray for our ministers, for our leadership team and all those who give their time and talents so generously to build your Kingdom here. We pray for every member of this congregation and ask that you bless us all this coming week. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • Let us pray for the people we know who need God’s healing touch today. Lord, touch with your healing power all who are sick, grant them peace amidst pain, confidence in your wisdom, and the ability to draw strength from the knowledge that underneath are your everlasting arms. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
  • Let us pray for each and every life of those who have died and for all who mourn. We recall those known to us who have died and those who in life have encouraged us by their light and now know the fullness of your presence. May they know the peace of Simeon of a life well-led, and fulfilment as they are presented to you and enfolded in your loving arms. Jesus Christ is the light of the World, a light which no darkness can quench. We remember before God those who have died and light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. You turn our darkness into light in your light shall we see light. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Merciful Father, accept our prayers, for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Church Intercessions for Second Sunday before Lent by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

The theme this week is “Serving and Caring’ and the following prayers are taken from the work of Susan Sayers. We pray:

  • Fill your church, O Lord, with life and energy, spiritual health and vitality. As we feed on you, may we grow more like you; may we exercise your loving, minister with your tenderness and serve with your humility.
  • Fill your world, O Lord, with wonder at creation, recognition of our mutual human responsibility, desire for reforming what is a fault, and hope in the possibilities of living at peace with you and with one another.
  • Fill our homes and neighbourhoods, O Lord, with the generosity and trust that is always ready to encourage and support. May we honour one another as people of your making.
  • For all who are ill at home or in hospital, for those who have recently discovered that they have illness or injury that will change their lives. We pray for the work of all who heal and comfort, all who visit the sick and comfort the distressed.
  • For the dying and those who love them; for those who have completed this life and have made the journey through death. We pray for the work of those who comfort the bereaved.
  • Fill our hearts, O Lord, with thankfulness and praise as we recall your faithfulness and live in your love.

Church Intercessions for Epiphany 3 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

On Thursday we think about the conversion of St Paul. Paul gives us an example of courage, strong faith and commitment to spreading the good news of Christ. We pray for:

  • All Christians throughout the world persecuted for their faith; for courage and strength in the face of violence, intimidation and imprisonment; for the release of captives and for God’s Holy Spirit to sustain them.
  • For governments and political leaders that they may support diversity of religious belief and practice; for tolerance, understanding and a spirit of freedom to be the mark of their office.
  • All Priests, Deacons, Lay Readers and Ministers that their ministry and words may inspire us to do God’s work; that we may listen, hear and act when we hear God’s call.
  • All churches dedicated to St Paul, for their priests and church families that they may be sustained in being God n action in their communities
  • The word of God to break through the noise of our secular society; that those who are seeking meaning and peace of mind may hear the scriptures and God’s call to faith.
  • Our own acceptance of the fact that, however far we fall short of Christ, we can be restored to grace

Church Prayers for Epiphany 3 and the week ahead by Janet and Mike Warren  2024

Let us pray to God, the giver of all good things to the church and to the world

  • Father – Grant that the church may obey your commands and be strengthened by the good wine of your love. Bless and inspire the Leaders of the church in the spreading of the Good News of your salvation, and in preaching the wonders of your grace and mercy offered to us all. Be with those who lead your church in our Diocese and here at St Marks. Father – may we all find the mystery of your grace in the life of every day. Lord in Your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Father – we pray for the needs of the world, for fellowship and mutual care in sorrow and in joy. We pray for all countries ravaged by war, hunger, disease, oppression, natural disasters, poverty and marginalisation. For the innocent and the suffering. For the leaders of the world that they would lead with truth, integrity and compassion for all their people. For an end to war mongering and to be replaced with peace-making. We pray for a global commitment from the world’s leaders to do all that they can in promoting, supporting and working towards the restoration of your creation. Father – Have compassion on those who have not enough for their needs, and guide those who are able to bring relief. Lord in your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Father - we pray for our community. For our families, friends, neighbours and those we share our lives with. For all married couples, especially those recently married. For those who are struggling – through poverty, ill health, loneliness, marriage breakdown or any kind of need in their lives. Father – may your blessing be upon them and may they know the strength and comfort of your love. Lord in Your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Father – we pray for those who are sick. For those waiting for treatment or surgery – for those who are in pain - for those who are terminally ill – for those who are frightened. Church Prayers by Mr Richard Ledger for Epiphany 2  2024

Loving God, as you called the disciples, open our ears to your calling, open our eyes to your presence, open our hearts to your love, that we may hear you, and hearing you may love you, and loving you may serve you, whom to serve is perfect freedom.

Christ shine through the darkness, and let there be light

Longing for light, we wait in darkness, longing for truth, we turn to you. Make us your own, your holy people, light for the world to see. Loving God, make us worthy of our calling; may we be faithful to you. As a Church here may we be attentive to your word and seek to do your will,

that we share in the mission of Christ our Lord, sharing your love and light.

Christ shine through the darkness, and let there be light

Longing for peace, our world is troubled. Longing for hope, many despair. Loving God, we pray for the nations as they live through conflicts and struggle with divisions. Lord, we pray that the rulers of this world may serve your kingdom. We pray for a vision of your world as you want it to be, the kingdom of love, the garden of your creation. That its peoples may have what they need: Freedom, justice, security, peace.

Christ shine through the darkness, and let there be light

Longing for food, many are hungry, longing for water, many still thirst, longing for shelter, many are homeless, longing for warmth, many are cold. We remember before you all those individuals and organisations that work to bring help and hope, all over the world. Will you bless their efforts and give them the determination, vision and patience they need. And we pray that they will indeed make real difference to the lives of those who otherwise would face utter despair.

Christ shine through the darkness, and let there be light

So Lord, we pray for a vision of humankind as you mean it to be; a family, living in harmony and love. Brothers and sisters, choosing and sharing what is good. That every man, woman and child may have what they need: Food, shelter, medicine, education.

Christ shine through the darkness, and let there be light

Loving God, we bring to you those we know who are ill or suffering in any way. Those who are depressed, anxious over treatments or impending results; those waiting in limbo. We pray your blessing on all who care for them, who give time and skill in hope and healing, in hospitals, Care Homes and hospices. Mat we all know ourselves and our loved ones to be enfolded by your love.

Christ shine through the darkness, and let there be light

Finally, Loving God we remember in your presence all those who have died, those we have known and loved. Thank you for them and thank you for your promise of eternal life and peace. May we comfort one another through your love. Jesus Christ is the light of the world, a light which no darkness can quench. So, we commend with confidence to your everlasting love those who have died and we light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope. Today we remember all the recent victims of violence and accidents and those having to come to terms with sudden loss. You turn our darkness into light, in your light shall we see light.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

Church Intercessions for Epiphany 2 and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

This Thursday is the start of the week of prayer for Christian unity. As we continue through the season of Epiphany, we give thought to the worldwide church. We pray:

  • With thanks for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the joy of Mary & Joseph, the worship of the shepherds and the gifts of the Magi as they all see the glory of God brought into our world
  • That all Christians may recognise and accept the glorious diversity of worship and spirituality that exist in God’s church family; for joy to be the hallmark of all Christians as we worship our one God
  • For our brothers and sisters in the Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed churches; for us all to work and worship in harmony to serve those in need and those who are looking for God
  • For Archbishop Justin, Pope Francis, Bartholomew the Ecumenical Patriarch and all Christian Leaders that they will continue to bring us all together in unity and that they will know the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in their ministries
  • For the worldwide Church continuing to reach out in so many different ways to its community, particularly at this time where many are surrounded by war and conflict; for the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and the Christian Church in the Holy Land.
  • For the churches in Bedford, their ministers and church families and for ourselves that we may work and pray for the unity of God’s church

Church Intercessions for Epiphany and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  2024

In this season of Epiphany, we think about the journey, gifts and worship of the Magi. We pray:

  • The Magi took the decision to make a long and difficult journey; we pray for those for whom life presents difficult decisions and personal challenges; for those in fear of oppressive regimes and faced with leaving homes and families; for those who are in abusive relationships leaving home to look for a safe haven; for all those who travel to new countries in search of a new home
  • The Magi brought gifts for the Christ child; we pray for those longing for the gifts of friendship, healing, laughter and love; for those who feel they have nothing to offer praying that their gifts will be revealed; for the gifts we all have that they may shine forth and show God in us
  • The Magi worshipped the Christ Child; we pray for those who worship in private, in silence and in fear; for those persecuted for their faith and for those who have lost faith; we pray for religious tolerance and for all to feel free to worship
  • The Magi give us an example of faith; we pray that we may have courage in the face of difficulty, that we may listen for the voice of God, appreciate and give our gifts freely and worship with love, joy and hope as we look on the Christ Child

Praying together for the New Year by Mike and Janet Warren    2024

At the turn of another year, we take time to reflect on the year that has past and on the year that is to come. We pray to our Father in Heaven:

  • With thanks for the year with which you have blessed us in its variety, beauty, wonder and love; we thank you for the friendships, families and chance meetings we have enjoyed along the way; for those unexpected moments of joy and celebration; with thanks for the work, we have been able to do, the help we have given to others and the support we have found from those around us
  • With thanks for our church and church family, for the worship we have enjoyed, for the fellowship we have shared and for those opportunities given to us to deepen our faith
  • With thanks for the healing we received, the care and love of others and the miracle of vaccination; with thanks for the lives of those who now have died, for the memories they gave us and the joy of knowing them
  • With thanks for the life of Queen Elizabeth II and the example of service, duty and selflessness that she gave us; for our King and the Royal Family as the Monarchy enters this year with new responsibilities; for a healing of hurts and wisdom in counsel
  • With hope for peace amongst nations; for the people of Ukraine and Russia, Somalia, Syria and the Yemen that there may be a lasting peace to be found; with hope for peace and unity in our nation; that solutions may be found to industrial unrest and civil disquiet; for our Government, Trades’ Union Leaders and Arbitrators; with hope that all those who are struggling with life through economic circumstances may be supported, encouraged and lifted up from anxiety
  • For our created world as the impacts of climate change and human activity worsen; for global commitments to be honoured; for all those working to find solutions to environmental problems and for all people now affected by climate change
  • For God’s Church on earth that it may offer all people a vision of light, joy, hope and love

Intercessions for Christmas Day by Mike and Janet Warren - Luke 2. V 1-20   2023

Rejoicing in the precious gift of the Son, let us pray to the Lord.

  • Father – Grant to the Church, illumined by the eternal light, the grace to shine as the servant of Incarnate God. We pray for its Leaders, Ministers and all whose ministry is to preach the Gospel. We pray for Charlie, Sam, Wendy and Alan.
  • May the simple faith of the Shepherds, the adoration of the angels, and the love of the Holy Family be the ground of our worship and witness - now and at all times. Lord in Your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Son of God - taking our human nature so that all broken humanity might be made new, look with mercy on a world which has not heeded the angelic message of peace. We pray for all people who are suffering through war or oppression – for the people of Ukraine, Russia, Syria, Somalia, the Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan and so many others. Bring to the nations knowledge of the love which has been from the beginning and which no sin can extinguish or folly destroy. Lord in Your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Father – May the love that shone from the blessed manger bed be ours today. We pray for our community – our families, friends, neighbours and those we share our lives with. In every heart, every home, every place where some must work, may the grace and truth of God dwell with us and draw us into his holiness, and empower us to tell out the tidings of great joy. Lord in Your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Light of God – Come into the lives of all who are suffering and in darkness. In a moment’s quiet we hold before God those we know personally.
  • In the new day that has dawned, may the sick find healing, the sorrowful comfort, the despairing hope and the dying assurance. Bring the wanderers and the homeless to shelter – Shield the newly born and the mothers waiting for the time of birth. Lord in Your mercy – Hear our prayer
  • Father – Grant to the departed the peace that unites earth and heaven. Especially praying for……………….. and those whom we have loved. And Father - Be merciful to those who have died unprepared. We light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope - and may the life that was in Christ, the life of all that was made, be theirs in the greater light of his eternal glory.

Praying together this week by Mike and Janet Warren Fourth Sunday of Advent  2023

In this final week of Advent, we bring all the themes together by holding out to our loving Lord His struggling world and its people as we all await the birth of Christ. We pray:

  • Come, Lord Jesus, bringer of peace to a world fractured by war, violence, hatred and prejudice. Bring peace to the people of Ukraine, Russia, the Yemen, Haiti, Somalia and Syria; be with all those caught up in the horrors of war, and may your message of peace ring through the noise and clamour of conflict.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, bringer of wise counsel to the leaders and Governments of the world. Be with all who lead and bring in them a spirit of cooperation, compromise, moderation and a willingness to listen.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, bringer of hope to all those for whom life is getting harder and the burdens of daily life heavier; bring hope to those struggling with bills, providing food for themselves and their loved ones, keeping warm and safe, and trying to see a light shining in their darkness.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, bringer of love and healing to all who are unwell, lonely sad and nearing the end of their lives. Bring love to families, guardians, foster carers and bring healing and protection to those who are vulnerable in society; may your love shine as a light to all those in need.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, bringer of joy to your world as we prepare for Christmas. Bring joy to broken hearts, those in dark despair, those seeking you and those who simply feel worn out by the pressures of the world. May your joy be reflected in us, in our homes and in our lives as we rejoice with the Saints and Angels that Christ is born!

  • For those whose homes and properties have been flooded or damaged; for those who were uninsured facing the prospect of a huge financial burden, for help and emotional support for all those experiencing the trauma of this devastation in their lives
  • For those whose businesses have been ruined; for understanding and empathy from their suppliers, banks and customers as they seek to rebuild; for their staff facing uncertainty about the future of their jobs
  • For those in the Emergency services, local authorities and Environmental agencies who work in difficult and dangerous situations to bring rescue and recovery; for the Coastguard and RNLI in their rescue work at sea
  • For all those across the world facing extremes of weather; for safety, comfort and help

Praying together this week by Mike and Janet Warren Third Sunday of Advent   2023

We continue our prayers through Advent by thinking of our own Christian journey and our response in this time of reflection and preparation for the coming of Christ. We pray:

  • Come, Lord Jesus, to us in our busy world; help us through all the tinsel and lights not to lose sight of the true meaning of Advent and Christmas. Speak to us amidst the noise.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to us in our worries and fears; help us to hear Your still small voice of calm, reassurance and comfort when we feel overwhelmed. Speak to us in our anxieties.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to us in our families; help us to show Your love as we spend time with them and help us to bring healing where there may be division. Speak to us in our relationships.
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to us in our own Spiritual journey; help us to make time to set aside those things that separate us from Your love; be with us in our prayers, study and in our thinking. Speak to us in the silence of our hearts.

Church Intercessions for The Third Sunday of Advent and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  2023

This Monday is the United Nations International Migrant’s Day. Each year on 18th December, the world marks this day that is set aside to recognise the important contribution of migrants whilst highlighting the challenges they face. We pray:

  • With thanks for all those who have migrated to our country over many centuries bringing knowledge, skills, creativity and variety to our communities
  • For those who are forced to flee their homes and countries due to war and conflict; we pray for them on their journeys, for safe passage and security, a welcome and a new home for them
  • For those who are oppressed, marginalised or live in fear in their own country; for those who are victims of human trafficking; as the Christ-child was carried into Egypt we pray that those on the roads at this time will find a safe haven and have hope for their future
  • For those who have reached their destination and await decisions as to their future; we pray for empathy, compassion and kind treatment as they live lives of uncertainty and anxiety
  • For all governments charged with making difficult decisions about migration; we pray for moderation of language and the willingness to understand the plight of migrants
  • For ourselves that we may be open-minded, put aside prejudice, intolerance and assumptions; that we may welcome the stranger, celebrate diversity and bring Christ’s love to all those who seek shelter and aid.

Praying together this week by Mike and Janet Warren. First Sunday of Advent

As we enter Advent, the noise and clamour of commercial Christmas can drown out the calls of those in need and who are suffering. For many people, this season can be a time of worry and distress. So, we pray:

  • Come, Lord Jesus, to those who are suffering severe financial hardship; help us to bring food to the hungry, warmth to the cold and reassurance to the anxious. We pray for all charities and agencies working to give advice, support and a listening ear to those in need
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to those torn apart by war and civil conflict; help us to work for peace in the small ways that present themselves to us. We pray for the people of Ukraine, Russia, Somalia, Syria and all peoples oppressed in their own countries
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to those suffering the effects of climate change and natural disasters; help us to be generous in our response. We pray for the people of Pakistan, Indonesia, the Island Nations of the Pacific and all people struggling to rebuild their lives
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to those who are bereaved and for whom Christmas is a time of loss; help us to care, to listen and to comfort. We pray for those for whom the pain of loss is recent and for those who, each year, remember the passing of their loved one at this time. We pray for the souls of the faithful departed
  • Come, Lord Jesus, to those for whom Christmas is not a time of family laughter and reunion; help us to reach out to all those in our community. We pray for the lonely, the unloved, the homeless, those in family conflict, prisoners and refugees far from home

Prayers First Sunday of Advent 2022 by Mr Ian Farthing    2023

Lord as we come before you today on this First Sunday of Advent we ask you to prepare us for your coming, where your light has the power to overcome all darkness, you promised through your son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith and we bring before you today the needs of the Church and the world.

  • Lord prepare us for your coming – in the church. We pray for your church today, gathering worldwide in various places of worship to praise you and to hear your holy word. Give us a sense of expectation as we come and inspiration as we go. Help us to put our differences behind us and to unite instead behind the great commission of Jesus to make disciples of all nations and all people.
  • We pray for your blessing on all those who preach, and teach the message of your salvation and we pray especially for our own Ministers for Charlie, Sam and for Wendy as they seek to do your will and guide us through our spiritual and worldly journeys.
Lord in your mercy - Hear our prayer
  • Lord prepare us for you coming- in the world. On this day we pray for this troubled world and for an end to war and conflict especially in Ukraine, a fair and just solution to the migrant crisis and progress in actions to address climate change. May love motivate our care for our neighbourhoods, may love heal the social ills, which sometimes drag us into despair. We ask you to help us all to use our gifts and our talents to the greater good of all, challenge us to drive away complacency and apathy when we know in our hearts that we can do more to help and sustain those in need.
  • We pray for others for whom this day will seem long and hard, for those in hospital or ill at home, those struggling with despair or depression, those seeking work, and for those for whom this day will be their last. Comfort and heal all who suffer, give them courage and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation. Jesus Christ is the light of the world a light which no darkness can quench we remember before God those who have already gone before us and we light a candle to symbolise the light of Christ which eternally shines and brings hope

Church Intercessions for the First Sunday of Advent and the week ahead before Advent by Mike and Janet Warren  2023

On Wednesday the Church remembers St. Cecilia. Much of her story is created from legends but she is known as the Patron Saint of Music and Musicians. This week we reflect on creativity and the performing arts. We pray:

  • With thanks for the gift of music in our lives; for all who create and perform music, for composers, performers, conductors and arrangers, we pray that, through the music we hear, we may hear the creativity of God inspiring us
  • For producers, directors, playwrights and actors on stage, screen and radio; we pray that, through the power of the spoken word that stirs our imaginations we may hear the voice of God challenging us
  • For all authors, poets, artists and sculptors; we pray that through their writings and images we may hear and see the creative hand of God at work
  • For our own gifts of creativity that we may rejoice in them and be willing to share them for God’s greater glory

Church Intercessions for Christ the King and the week ahead by Mike and Janet Warren  2023

This week includes a day of Intercession and Thanksgiving for the Missionary work of the Church. We think about the various aspects of missionary work both abroad and at home. We pray:

  • For all those who have a vocation to missionary work; with thanks for their commitment to serving others and for strength and courage when faced with difficult and distressing circumstances, and for joy in their work
  • For the work of the Church Missionary Society in its many projects across the world and, at this time, their efforts in the Middle East; for their staff, volunteers and fundraisers
  • For the missionary work in our own country that is sometimes overlooked; for those working with refugees and asylum seekers, for those supporting Ukrainian families and people settling here from other countries, as they help them with language skills and building communities
  • For those missionaries whose lives are given to helping relieve poverty and hunger in our own country; for those running community food projects, community gardens and Credit Unions
